Remember the days as a kid when you used to trade your lunch with your friends for something better, something different, or to avoid a wedgie? We definitely wouldn’t have thought twice in handing over our peanut butter and sliced cheese in white bread sandwich if some of these options were open to trade! An amazing photographic journey into the lunches offered by different schools from around the world to their students!
What’s your favorite lunch?
ITALY: Local fish on a bed of arugula, pasta with tomato sauce, caprese salad, baguette and some grapes.
BRAZIL: Pork with mixed veggies, black beans and rice, salad, bread and baked plantains.
GREECE: Baked chicken over orzo, stuffed grape leaves, tomato and cucumber salad, fresh oranges, and greek yogurt with pomegranate seeds.
FRANCE: Steak, carrots, green beans, cheese and fresh fruit.
UKRAINE: Mashed potatoes with sausage, borscht, cabbage and syrniki (a dessert pancake).
SOUTH KOREA: Fish soup, tofu over rice, kimchi and fresh veggies.
FINLAND: Pea soup, beet salad, carrot salad, bread and pannakkau (dessert pancake) with fresh berries.
SPAIN: Sautéed shrimp over brown rice and vegetables, gazpacho, fresh peppers, bread and an orange.
USA: Fried ‘popcorn’ chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, fruit cup and a chocolate chip cookie.
Unsurprisingly, the lunches in these other nations were far more nutritious and fresh, when compared to the processed meals served to American children. Through this visual project, Sweetgreen hopes to raise awareness and promote school lunch reforms in the US.

yoghurt and cucumber sauce = tzaziki
Swedish “cracker” is not a cracker, it’s called knækbrød or knäckbröt and it’s thin hard, often whole grain, bread.
Swedish one looks best
Israel. its just a random picture of a homemade falafel from google.
its not how we (israelies) eat it and for sure not as school lunch…/:
Did anyone else notice number 8 is followed by number 13? :)
Why? Japanese meal looks aweful!!!!
It’s more than 10 years ago but I had a better lunch at school. It looked like the menu is going to be better n better (I have younger sisters so I checked what they have.) The school didnt treat the students well.
The French layed out a nice spread
America is obviously the most irresponsible. All containers are thrown in the trash. What a completely disgusting, wasteful society. So much land to stuff with cellophane and styrofoam.
Hilarious that you see one image of one lunch and then condemn their whole society as wasteful.
You don’t think American society is wasteful? Trust me, this isn’t the ONLY data point. It’s just a nice juxtaposition as it sits with all the other single images from around the world.
All of them are awful! :/
