Beautiful Photos of Frozen Lighthouses on Lake Michigan

With the winter chill in high gear in the Northern Hemisphere, photographer Thomas Zakowski has captured some beautiful images of frozen lighthouses to reflect just how cold temperatures can get. The photographer’s spectacular shots reveal a lesser seen vision of lighthouses on Lake Michigan, each having been hit with waves of water that have succumb to the frigid temperatures, crystallizing in place.

The almost haunting images are unbelievable examples of bitter cold weather. Though, with the US facing a polar vortex this week, it’s easy for many Americans to believe each visually stunning image in Zakowski’s collection. Traced with icicles, each 30-foot structure is transformed into a sort of frozen beast, yearning for warmer days. Yet, there’s also something enchanting about the photos that has a hint of wintry romance.
