Famous Paintings Recreated Using Thousands of Torn Magazine Scrap

Brazilian-born Brooklyn-based artist Vik Muniz has a number of works on display at Galerie Xippas in Paris as part of his Pictures of Magazine 2 series. The nine pieces are recreations of famous paintings by Van Gogh, Manet, Cézanne and other artists using cut and torn fragments from popular magazines. We’ve seen a number of works similar to these where multiple components of trash or other objects are organized to create works by old masters, but Muniz seems to take things a step further into another level of perfection and detail. Muniz was also just in Rio where he completed a massive trash installation depicting Guanabara Bay.
