An Artist On A Mission – Jerry Chacon

Jerry Chacon’s entry in our North American Artist Showcase received the most votes. With almost 20,000, Jerry did an amazing job of publicizing his art. And now we’re happy to return the favor.

From his home in Denver, Jerry spends 90% of his spare time drawing. From a comfortable recliner in his studio, and with his legs up, Jerry pumps his heavy metal and gets to work.

When he’s not putting pencil to paper and creating his strikingly realistic portraits, Jerry’s putting a tattoo gun to skin, creating pieces that will endure on his customers arms, chests and thighs for years to come.

Every artist faces their own challenges when creating their art. Artists blocks. Shortage of supplies. Lack of time. But Jerry faces his own unique challenge. He suffers motion sickness and nausea whilst drawing and tattooing. Yet, with motion sickness pills he fights through it. Adding detail after detail.

Jerry has always been an artist. Through school he was given the freedom to explore his talents, free from the traditional art curriculum.

“By high school my art teacher, Angelique Acevedo (the only teacher whose name I even remember), had put me in independent studies in her art class. Meaning I was allowed to do whatever I wanted. That kind of artistic freedom was a great learning tool.”

While Jerry’s talent is obvious, he states that his biggest challenge as an artist is being too critical of his own work. In that, we have no doubt, he is not alone.

Jerry’s advice to other artists is simple:

“Stay humble, and keep trying.”
