To call a 175-pound dog a 'lapdog' may sound a bit strange, but that is until you meet a Great Dane. Standing at least 30 inches from paw to shoulder, these cuddly canines are often referred to as "the world's largest lapdogs," as they often don't realize their own enormity. Yes, this breed is so large a since-deceased Great Dane by the name of Zeus holds the world record for the tallest dog, standing at 44 inches from paw to shoulder.

According to the American Kennel Club, Great Danes currently rank as the 24th most popular dog breed and once you see one it's easy to see why people love them.
